Guangzhou (JLC), October 9, 2025--China witnessed approximately 2.43 billion passenger trips during the eight-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, setting a new historical record for the same period of time, according to data from the Ministry of Transport (MOT).

The daily flows averaged 304 million during October 1-8, representing a 6.2% increase compared with that of the 2024 National Day holiday.

The travel surge began on the first day of the holiday, which saw 336 million passenger trips, setting a single-day record for the period.

Road travel dominated the holiday period with 2.25 billion passenger trips, as self-driving journeys accounted for about 80% of all travel. Railway transport reached 154 million trips during the holiday period, while civil aviation and waterway transport recorded 19.17 million and 11.67 million respectively.

An average of approximately 650,000 vehicles were rented per day during the holiday, backed by enhanced service for small and micro car rental services.

Additionally, the national highway network established 7,833 rescue sites, a 71.7% year-on-year increase, while charging capacity at service areas expanded by 118% compared with the Labour Day holiday in May to accommodate the massive mobility surge.

The record travel volume, fueled by strong tourism and family visit demand during the extended break, highlights continued vitality in China's transportation sector and holiday consumption trends.
